In a warm-up match ahead of next Sunday’s regional tournament at Worcester RFC,
Burton U14 Girls joined forces with Leek to play against hosts Tamworth . The Crofters girls helped the combined team to a comfortable 42 – 5 victory. Burton centre Stephanie Weedon showed pace and power to score four unanswered tries as they dominated the first half. Burton ’s Corina Poyner was unlucky to have her try disallowed and Lauren Cartwright kicked all conversions giving the Burton and Leek girls a 28-0 lead at the interval.
Tamworth rallied after the break and worked the ball over to the right wing for a consolation try. The combined team had long spells in attack and were rewarded when Leeks Katie Stanton raced over for a score in the corner, converted by Burton ’s scrum half Lauren Cartwright who had the last word with a try she also converted. Leeks right winger Natasha Leigh was denied a score at the end following a fine run and all the girls clearly enjoyed the game.

The second half saw a resurgence of power from Earlsdon, but this was matched by determined tackling by Rose Jay and two magnificent tries from Steph Weedon, despite the up-hill disadvantage. The game finished with a final score line of 29-21, in favour of the visitors.
