Burton arrived at Stoke with two sides trying to emulate last weeks plate victory in the county festival, Burton 1’s started against the county champions Stoke , It was a hard fought game with Charlie Bunting, William Beardsmore and Danny Causer scoring great tries but Stoke were too strong and won 7-3, meanwhile on the other pitch Burton 2 were having a end to end battle with Stoke 2. This produced tries end to end with Burton coming out winners 5-4, with tries from Heale, Betts (2), Walton and Humphries.
The Burton 1 team were then back on against Sandbach this produced a very equal contest but Burton strength came through as they won 5-s, tries from Bunting, Beardsmore (2) , Collingwood and Barker. The Burton 1 team were also to beat Newcastle 5-2 but the defeat against Stoke 1 meant they were not to make the final from pool A.
Burton 2’s then faced Sandbach, this produced a great contest with Burton some fantastic tagging, the game finished even with 3 tries each, Burton scores were Betts (2) and Heale.
Burton 2’s went into their final pool game knowing a victory would see them into the final, they were in a determined mood as they stepped up against Stafford, this produced some superb running and above all some top class tagging, Burton ran out winners with tries from Betts, Snelling, Heale and Wrathall.
Burton entered the final knowing that they would have to beat the county champions, this did not deter them as they started in the determined way that they had started the earlier matches in, they held Stoke with some fantastic tagging and scored try for try to match them, tries from Heal (2) and Betts (2), at half time there was only one try in it with Stoke just edging it, as the second half started with Burton on the attack but with Stoke showing their experience and power just managed to pull away and give themselves a cushion towards the end of the match, but Burton did not give up, they tagged everything and kept running right to the final whistle to cap not only and excellent mornings rugby but also a great season. Final score Burton under 7’s 4 Stoke 8.
