There was nothing to choose
between Burton under 8s and their Derby counterparts after three
fascinating encounters both sides winning one game each and drawing
the other.
A hat-trick of tries from Elliott Emery was not enough to save visitors Burton
from a 40-30 defeat in the opening match.
Their other scores came from Alex Hillier (2) and Aidan Hopkinson as two late
tries clinched a deserved win for the home side.
The next match saw a changed Burton side grab a dramatic 40-40 draw with the
very last play of the game.
Trailing by five points, debutant David Jones ran from his own line to set
up captain and player of the week Thomas Gardiner to
level the scores with his third try.
George Moorcroft, Alistair Robson, Edward Whitten and Alex Finney were also
in try-scoring form for the Crofters.
Burton made more changes for the final match, which they won 35-10.
Greg Ordish (2) and Sheridan Cole gave the visitors a 15-10 half-time lead.
Then a second-half hat-trick of unanswered tries from the ever-present Finney
gave Burton a commanding lead and debutant Dean Ainger completed the scoring
with his first try for the club.

Burton Under 8's came away from
Coalville with a win and two defeats.
In their opening match against Nuneaton, tries from Elliott Emery and Alistair
Robson saw Burton go in level at half-time. But eight unanswered second-half
scores gave Nuneaton — who went on to win the tournament —an emphatic
55-10 victory in the end.
Burton led three times against Towcester but eventually lost 35-25. Scott Hickbotham
gave the Crofters a great start with the opening two tries and, although Towcester
fought back well, further scores from George Moorcroft and Robson put their side
20-15 up. Towcester hit back again to take the lead for the first time in the
match and, despite another score from Burton’s Aiden Hopkinson, they sealed
the win with two late tries.
Burton claimed a well earned victory in their last game against Oadby Wyggs.
Sheridan Cole (2) and Callum Gibson put the Crofters 15-10 up at the break.
Second-half scores from Robson, Moorcroft and Emery continued the good work,
before Sam Bridgen wrapped up a 35-25 win in the closing stages with his first
