BURTON v BROMSGROVE
MIDLANDS 2 WEST
SATURDAY 7th MARCH 2009
Welcome to Peel Croft for today’s top of the league clash against Bromsgrove RFC, especially today’s sponsors Smith Cooper and Jupiter Marketing and all their guests, I hope everyone enjoys their visit and will come again.
Today we welcome our challengers for promotion Bromsgrove RFC, their officials , players and supporters and hope that they enjoy their trip to Peel Croft. They are currently top of Mids 2 West having P17 W15 D0 L2 PF483 PA227 PD 256. Our last meeting back in September, the 1st league match of this season, saw Burton lose 23.15 in an exciting match which went right to the final whistle with Burton pressing for those few points for victory, alas it was not to be and so we approach today’s game 3 points behind the leaders and possibly dependent on others for league success.
Last Saturday’s game at Dudley saw the spirit in the 1st when they fought back from 25.10 down to a 25.25 draw. A far better performance than at Stratford or against Walsall, 2 to forget losses but lessons to be learnt.
Next Wednesday evening, 11th March Burton play Stafford in the Staffs Cup at Lichfield RFC KO 7.30, have an evening out.
Next Saturday the 1st are away at Camphill RFC, your support will be welcome.
The Annual 7s competition will be held on Tuesday 21st April, Burton are the current holders of the Newton Husband Shield and will look forward to your support for them to retain it.
Well done the Colts for their close victory over Derby which puts them in the last 8 of the National Plate competition, away to Bromsgrove next Sunday 15th March, there is a bus going for those interested in supporting the Colts. The Colts are also in the Staffs Cup Final. Against Willenhall on Easter Saturday.
Well done the U10, this afternoon they are in the final of the Tigers Prima Cup, to be played at Welford Road prior to Tigers Premiership league game. They beat Stoke to go into the quarter final against Holt RFC, beat them to meet Lutterwoth in the semi-final whom they beat to meet Stratford in today’s final. Good luck to them and hope to see the Cup at Peel Croft later this afternoon.
The Annual Ball invites will be out soon, £38 per head Friday 8th May at the Town Hall, start saving now and lets have a full house and hopefully celebrate winning the league and promotion to Mids 1. The Sportsmans Evening has been postponed until next season due to cancellation by the speaker and concern re the credit crunch.
