Burton 'A' 74 Coalville 2nds 3 on 8th September 2007
After last week’s defeat at Stoke Burton ‘A’ XV entertained Coalville on Peel Croft and gave a display of complete domination and control from the first to the last whistle. They out-muscled, out thought and out played their opposition in all departments to produce a 74-3 point victory. Ben Stone was the first to put points on the board when he completed a flowing backs move that saw him score in the right hand corner. Captain Rich Wilton then celebrated his appointment when he finished off an excellent catch and drive move from a lineout. Further tries then followed in rapid succession from Stone, Tom Atherton, and Steve Crampand Burton got to half time leading 34-0.
In the second half Burton’s forwards continued to supply quality ball to their rampant backs with Carl Neethling and Tom Mayne in the van. But Coalville never gave up and only a superb tackle by Ian Jones stopped a certain score as the visitors threatened the Burton line. With Cramp, Atherton and Stone adding another try each, while Jon Hamilton added a brace for himself the icing on the cake for Burton was really the last try that saw a stunning break by Rich Paupe led to Jez Gibbs being on hand to dive over for his first try for the Club.
This final act gave Burton a well-deserved 74-3 victory that had come from a demonstration of power, technique and teamplay.
