Earlsdon 2nds 12 Burton 'A' 30 on 2nd February 2008
Travelling to Coventry to play Earlsdon, a team not normally on their fixture list, Burton started off strongly and took an early lead when Darryl Banton landed a penalty goal. Then a wide sweeping move saw Tristan Gill score in the corner to increase Burton’s lead to 8-0, but with the Burton defence slow to re-organise themselves Earlsdon hit back from the restart and got a converted try.
Burton were slowly beginning to get control of the game but kept allowing themselves to be drawn into a mauling game that favoured their hosts. A scrum on halfway saw Darryl Banton break blind to feed Gill who raced forward and when confronted by the fullback he turned inside to pass to the speeding Russ Banton who scorched in for a try that his brother converted to give Burton a 15-8 lead at the break.
After the break Burton soon increased their lead as Steve Cramp scored a try wide out, but unfortunately the Burton team allowed themselves to be dragged down into a mauling game again. The end result of this was an opposition score and the sin-binning of two Burton players, but although down to 13 men some resolute defending kept the hosts at bay with Tom Mayne and Tom Atherton leading the way. After surviving this ten minutes of pressure when the players returned Burton reverted to their normal free flowing game and further tries by Russ Banton and Steve Cramp gave Burton a well-earned victory with a final score of 30-12.
