Hinckley 2nds 31 Burton 'A' 10  on 8th March 2008

Thanks to the efforts of Steve Lucas and his Nuneaton connections providing four players Burton ‘A’ XV travelled to Hinckley with a bare fifteen players and no fewer than eight changes from the side that demolished Tamworth last week. But despite scoring five tries against a very good Hinckley side their poor defensive work resulted in the opposition scoring twice that number and running out easy victors.

Burton started brightly with the Nuneaton contingent fitting in well and it wasn’t long before one of these, Mo Samayoa, carved through for a well taken try that Russ Banton converted to give his side a 7-0 lead. But the hosts soon hit back and a spell of missed first time tackles saw them get four quick tries to assert their dominance. However a good catch and drive by the Burton pack saw Sean Green be driven over for a try to reduce their lead to 22-12 at the break.

The restart saw Hinckley continue to pile on the pressure and assisted by Burton’s poor tackling they soon ran in four more tries to increase their lead to 42-12. For Burton Samayoa added another try before Mike Prince showed he has lost none of his skill as he cleverly rounded his man to score in the corner. Ian Cartwright added one conversion and a penalty goal to keep Burton in touch at 42-27. But more tries were there for the taking for Hinckley as Burton’s defensive errors increased and the home side added two further tries plus one conversion and a penalty to take their total to 57 points.
