Burton 'A' 10 Hinckley 2nds 31 on 17th November 2007
A bitterly cold day saw a young enthusiastic Burton ‘A’ team take on an experienced and well, drilled Hinckley side and from the kick-off Burton piled on the pressure and soon found themselves in the opposition 22. Unfortunately a breakout try by Hinckley soon reversed this and the visitors began to get on the front foot. But Burton rallied and their pack took on the opposition’s much bigger forwards to force their way back up the field to be awarded a penalty that Ian Cartwright duly converted.
The first half continued to be a closely fought contest but with the home side missing some tackles Hinckley managed to get another score before the break to go 12-3 in the lead.
After the break the Burton side continued to force the game but the experience in the visiting team meant that any errors were quickly exploited and a gap in Burton’s defensive line was spotted and the Hinckley winger wasted no time in racing through to score under the posts. So with momentum now in their favour Hinckley turned the screw and set up camp five metres from the Burton line. Great defence by Ian Jones and Jack Parkinson kept them out but the continuous pressure soon saw another visiting score. After this Burton upped the tempo of their game and a superb piece of running by Rory Peverill saw him score under the posts for Cartwright to convert and narrow the gap. With the game now last Hinckley took further advantage of Burton’s youth when Phil Harris’ pass was intercepted and they raced in for a final score and a deserved 31-10 victory.
