Kenilworth 2nds 62 Burton 'A'0 on 15th September 2007
After last week’s massive 74-3 victory Burton ‘A’ XV were brought down to earth with a bump as they struggled against a Kenilworth side that had only lost two games in the last of its thirty odd fixtures. Although the Crofters remained competitive throughout the game they could not match the home sides quicker backs and more cohesive teamwork. On a very hot day the host’s superior fitness levels always enabled them to be quicker to the breakdown and more alert and ready for the unexpected as the ball bounced erratically on the rock hard pitch.
Although Burton went close on several occasions they just could not produce the killer touch that they showed last week. With Kenilworth getting six tries in the first half to build up a healthy 36-0 lead Burton know their task was more one of containment rather than entertainment in the second half.
In the second half Burton’s forwards struggled hard to get to grips with the more organised home unit and despite Rob Emery, Brendan Fall and Will Forrester trying to rally the troops Burton were always on the back foot. While in the backs Ben Stone, Ben Peach and Tom Mayne all tackled like demons in attempts to stem the flow. But all of these efforts were to no avail as Kenilworth continued on their rampage to add a further four tries and run out eventual winners by 62-0
