Burton 'A' 19 Lichfield 2nds 61 on 24th November 2007
Local rivals Burton and Lichfield played at Shobnall, due to the Ox-Hay being already water logged, and with hosts Burton scoring within a minute everything appeared to be rosy but unfortunately that was not to transpire.
Burton’s Ian Jones chipped over the opposition ranks for Pete Baum to score and this seemed to signal a relaxation period for the Burton team who rested on their early laurels. First time tackles were missed and there was no commitment to ruck or maul as the visitor’s support and slick handling rewarded them with several tries. Burton rallied towards the end of the half and finished off the period with a similar try to their first but on this occasion it was Tristan Gill who finished off the move.
After the break the Burton started positively with captain Charl Neethling urging them on. A try from Ian Cartwright after an interception restored some of Burton’s pride. The team began to raise their game a little that some doubts were raised in the opposition ranks, but it was too little too late. So despite a mini-revival in the second half Burton suffered their worst defeat of the season as they went down 61-19.
