Burton 'A' 50 Spartans 2nds 3 on 15th March 2008

A back on track performance by Burton’A’ XV saw them destroy visitors Spartans by 50-3 on Saturday. Although the visitors had a strong scrummaging unit and a good tactical kicking game they could not compete with the power and tenacity of a well, balanced Burton side. A welcome return for Ollie Cooke at No 8 saw him produce a great supporting run to score under the posts and set the tone for the rest of the game. This coupled with Darryl Banton’s sniping runs from scrum half made massive inroads into the opposition defence and it was soon apparent that the floodgates would open.

Burton were continually in control and tries by Banton, Steve Cramp, Mike Prince, Tom Gregory and Scott Waddell plus four conversion by Dave Archer gave Burton a commanding 38-0 lead at half-time.

With the game already won Burton were guilty of easing off in the very damp second half and only added two more tries as Dave Archer and Adam Poynton scored with Archer converting one of these. Spartans lone reply was a penalty late in the game and the resulting 50-3 gave a sound and comprehensive victory for Burton.
