Sutton Coldfield 2nds 10 Burton 'A' 7 on 12th January 2008
In a very, close and hard fought game Burton fell short in a gruelling contest that went to the wire. Sutton got the first points on the board after some loose tackling let in their winger for an unconverted try.
Burton’s try came from a narrow side break by the ever alert Dave Noon who having spotted the opening raced clear before slipping the ball inside to the supporting Darryl Banton, making a welcome return from injury, who dived over to score. While the festive season may have added a few pounds to his girth it has not effected Ian Carwright’s boot as he placed the conversion sweetly between the uprights. This put Burton in the lead 7-5 and for the rest of the game both sides struggled to make headway on a very heavy pitch.
Sutton eventually got the break through after Noon was sin binned for supposedly impeding a players progress and using the man advantage they scored a push over try but could not convert for the extra points. However their lead could have been increased but for a try saving tackle by Steve Cramp and although this started a resurgence in Burton’s play unfortunately the whistle sounded before they could snatch the match winning score.
