Burton 'B' 12 Bham Barbars 24 on 3rd November 2007

Burton ‘B’ XV struggled throughout the game to match the youth and pace of this lively Birmingham side, but never stopped trying as they kept the score down with some sound defence. The game started badly for Burton as from the kick-off the visitors got a lucky bounce that saw their winger race in to score under the posts and this was quickly followed up by a further score that could have started a rot. But Burton hit back when Phil MacFarlane raced forty metres to score and Sam Large converted to take the score to 7-14 at the break.

Just after the break the opposition scored a penalty and another converted try to build up a 7-24 lead but Burton hit back when newcomer Dave Noon stopped a certain try with a bone crunching tackle that stopped his man dead. This set up a loose ball and Dave Ward, Ian Fitzgerald, Kev Billings and Pat Winter surged up field before feeding Noon who had raced after them and took the final pass to touch down for a well, deserved try. Despite pressure by the more experienced Burton scrum the home side could not pull the score back any further as the visitors continued to use their extra pace and youth to good effect but without breaking Burton’s resolute defence.
