Burton 'B' 26 Barton 2nds 10 on 15th March 2008

Burton ‘B’ XV continued on their winning way with yet another 26-10 victory over a hard-working Barton side. With local pride at stake the game started at a frantic pace with both sets of forwards fighting for every ball.

After 15 minutes Burton class began to tell and following some good forward work a stunning move involving all the backs saw Simon Paupe race over to score in the corner. Straight from the restart an almost identical move got exactly the same result as Paupe got his second try as he outstripped the visiting defence. More Burton pressure continued but a speculative Barton clearance saw Phil MacFarlane scrambling like a flat-footed Scottish goalkeeper as he missed the ball to let in Barton for an easy try.

The second half continued in much the same fashion and a series of powerful rucks by the Burton pack saw Dave Ward feed the eel-like PJ Solomon to score his twelfth try of the season. Burton’s final try came from a five metre scrum, where Ian Fiztgerald marshalled his troops like a giant gorilla minding its family to pick-up and dive over for a try with the opposition defenders lying in his wake.

Sam McNab kicking like a sniper on the front line added three conversions and not even a late try by Barton could dampen the spirits of a Burton side recording it’s lucky 13th win of the season.
