With six front row players Burton took to the field with props playing on the wings but still returned home winners by 11-0 after their fixture against a dogged Burntwood side. Burton dominated the first half with a powerful display of scrummaging and controlled lineout possession putting the hosts under constant pressure. Salmon like jumping by Pat Winter and John Collett continually stole opposition ball at the lineouts, and trying foul play to stop this saw Sam McNab convert a penalty with his sniper like precision to give Burton a 3-0 lead at the break.

The second half was a fairly even contest for possession and territory with Burntwood upping their game, but Burton took all they had to offer and came back with more. McNab again demonstrated his reliability and accuracy with a second penalty. With Martin Bird, Chris Cooke and Gary Potts combined front row skills setting up a continuous platform for Burton to work off. Although Ben Stone could not break through the opposition ranks Burton ‘B’’s very own kiwi P’Jay streaked passed the opposition ranks to score in the corner to take the final score to 11-0.

Special mention in this excellent team display should go to the front row trio of Mark Topliss, Tony Mumford and Lee Carter who played in the back line and didn’t put a foot wrong all game and at times showed some very unusual ways of stopping players.
