Burton 'B' 8 Hinckley 3rds 19 on 6th October 2007

Burton kicked off and the size of their task soon became apparent as a hard, running physical Hinckley team powered into the Burton defence with a series of strong running lines. But sound defensive work by youngsters Will Peach, Chris Lycett and Richard James prevented any scores on several occasions. The constant pressure on the Burton line finally told as the visitors scored a converted try in the corner to take the lead. With the Burton side in danger of being over run it was left to battle hardened campaigners like Mark Topliss, Ian Fitzgerald and Chris Cooke to rally the troops and steady the ship and this they did to great effect. In fact their efforts were rewarded when Pat Winter slotted over a penalty from 35 metres to narrow the gap to 3-7.

After the restart Hinckley quickly re-asserted themselves with two more scores to take them to a 3-19 lead as the second half mirrored the first with plenty of hard fought rugby being played at a frantic pace. Burton never gave in and a fine move involving all the Burton backs over the length of the field saw Simon Coombes power over the line for a well deserved debut try.

Although losing Burton can take great credit from another good, hard game and the spirit they showed throughout, including Lee Other and Nick North who volunteered to play for the short handed visitors.
