Burton 'B' 19 Linley 2nds 5
on 1st December 2007
With father to be Matt Coombes leading the fray and Alan Taylor tackling like a Trojan tank Burton ‘B’ XV recorded their third successive win with a comfortable victory over Linley 2nds by 19-5.
Once again last minute withdrawals had reduced the strength of the Burton team but those playing again produced a performance that typifies this team with a fantastic spirited display. Early play saw a great tackle by Alan Taylor free the ball for Chris Lycett to pick-up and race forty metres for a try in the corner that Sam McNab, kicking into a near gale, converted with ease. Another move saw Matt Coombes complete a fantastic passing movement by touching down in the corner to give Burton a 12-0 lead at the break.
From the restart Linley gathered the ball and ran in a well worked try to put some points on the board, but Burton responded well and were soon back down in the visiting half. Some text book line out throws by Chris Cooke saw Pat Winter leaping like a salmon to produce a great platform that saw Alan Taylor drive forward to the line and pounce over for a try. McNab’s conversion, without a kicking-tee, sealed the victory for a Burton team that can take credit for a hard fought victory.
