Sutton Coldfield 3rds 10 Burton 'B' 26 on 8th March 2008

Burton ‘B’ XV took to the field boasting a team containing father and son, Gavin and Kieran Dadley, for the first time in ‘B team memory. Indeed special mention should be made of the older Gavin Dadley as he stole no less than 10 balls from the opposition in set scrums. It must be said that his cause was helped by the exertions of his fellow forwards who totally eclipsed their younger opposition. Even Burton’s heaviest player Chris Cooke showed his true worth as a trundle by him covered some 20 metres and only ended as he collapsed within millimetres of the line.

The first five minutes saw Burton struggle in all departments as they were outfought and soon conceded an early try to a lively Sutton team. But with Chris Lycett racing forward like a stung tiger to charge down the conversion Burton were suddenly inspired and proceeded to start and dominate the game. Sutton continued to press forward but fly half Phil MacFarlane stole the ball in his own 22. He started a move that flowed up field involving both Gavin and Kieran Dadley, Ben Stone and Ian Gibson before he swooped in at the kill to score his 12th try of the season. This left the opposition stunned and disillusioned and from this point the game changed as Burton powered away in overdrive to pile on the points. Even the loss of Kev Billings to hospital with a badly torn ear failed to stop the momentum as the chameleon like Ian Fitzgerald just blended in to the scrum half role from his more familiar No. 8 slot.

Further tries by Ben Stone, Lee Gilleland and youngster Kieran Dadley all of which were converted by the laser like boot of captain Pat Winter put the game beyond the opposition’s reach as Burton recorded their twelfth win of the season.
