Burntwood 5 Burton 24 on 8th March 2008

Burton produced a disciplined and sound tactical performance in this away victory at Burntwood. Will Peach’s kicking kept his side on the front foot and from the territorial advantage this gave Burton applied constant pressure. Looking razor sharp this game marked the return and full recovery of Dave Archer after his awful leg injury. He scored all Burton points and his personal tally of 24 points included tries, drop goals, penalties and conversions.

Although Archer scored all the points, this win was not a one man show as the whole team played together as a unit combining all their skills for a superb performance. An early penalty by Archer was soon followed by a try and a forty metre drop goal to give Burton the lead, but the hosts hit back with a try just before the break.

Despite kicking into a head wind two further Archer penalties at the start of the second half increased Burton’s lead and with scrumhalf Ben Cook and flanker Matt Roe leading the way the Burton side drove continually forward. Burntwood continued to battle on but some stalwart defence by Burton kept them out and Archer rounded off the game with another converted try to complete his full house for the day.
