Burton Colts 17 Burntwood Colts 5 on 24th November 2007in the Staffs Cup

In the first round of the Staffs County Cup Burton Colts defeated Burntwood 14-5 on Peel Croft to proceed into the quarter-final draw.

Burton soon established domination in the scrums thanks to Adam Wright, Lewis Johnson and Sean Shuttleworth and No 8 Jon Parkinson was able to pick-up from the base almost at will. From one such move he powered in from fifteen metres for a try that Will Peach converted to give Burton a 7-0 lead. More Burton pressure and domination earned them a penalty try that Peach again converted to take the score to 14-0 at the break.

After the break it was Burntwood who enjoyed superiority in both possession and territory with their No 8 running the ball at a solid Burton defence. Eventually he broke through and scored a try but that was the end of the scoring and the match as Burton left the field wondering how they had only won by 14-5 with so much possession and control.
