Barker Butts Colts 3 Burton Colts 12 on 12th January 2008
Travelling to Barker Butts Burton returned home victorious after a very solid performance that hopefully will kick-start their New Year.
Burton started really well, but a string of penalties negated much of the good work done and from one of these the hosts took an early lead. As the break approached Burton rallied and started to string together a few phases of play that allowed them to up the tempo before Jono Parkinson stormed through the defending ranks to touch down for an unconverted score that gave Burton the lead 5-3 at half-time.
Just after the break a technical offence led to Richard Tattersal being sin binned, however after five minutes a red card to a Butts player levelled up the numbers. The game now became very scrappy with Burton applying all the pressure but Barkers relieved the pressure with several huge clearance kicks despite the attention of the Burton backrow. However on one occasion Alex Tuckwell, showing the benefit from his weeks of hard training, charged down a kick and gathered the ball on the home 22 to race over for a score. Will Peach added the extra points to take the Burton score to 12-3.
Although Burton pressed hard there were no further scores and so Burton travelled back to the clubhouse worthy 12-3 victors.
