Burton Colts 17 Camp Hill Colts 15 on 27th October 2007
Burton skipper returned from injury and boosted his team’s confidence with an early try in this close encounter against Camp Hill. Burton settled into a grove quite quickly as they used the elements to good effect with some excellent kicking by Will Peach. A second try by Benjamin with the extra points added by Peach appeared to have set Burton up for an easy victory but things were soon to change. A string of technical offences gifted the visitors with the opportunity to turn things around and while not actually getting a try they did succeed in putting Burton under pressure, especially after one Burton player was yellow carded. But all Camp Hill could score was three points from a penalty as half-time was reached with a very unsettled Burton team leading 12-3.
Burton re-grouped at the break but were still a man down as Camp Hill got an early try to close the gap to four points. But it was now the visitors who became the offenders as Burton made ground from a series of penalties. However, a kick ahead was gratefully accepted by Camp Hill’s centre who gathered and raced through to touch down for a converted try to give his side the lead, 12-15. Burton responded and the physicality of Josh Cartwright and Sultan Khan helped Burton in asserting some control into the game and it wasn’t long before this constant pressure saw Khan power his way over for a score to give Burton the lead at 17-15. Thanks to some gallant defence by James Carter and Joel Briggs Burton held out for the remaining few minutes to record a deserved victory
