Burton Colts 8 Coalville Colts 42 on 26th January 2008
With the wind at their backs Burton Colts were soon under pressure against a powerful and well-drilled Coalville side. An early score for the visitors broke the deadlock but Burton soon responded as Will Peach kicked a penalty goal. Burton’s hard working winger Mitch Aspinall pressurised his opponent and was rewarded with his first try in seven years playing for the club.
But Coalville’s big inside centre replied with two scores that he converted himself as his side built up a healthy 21-8 lead at the break.
After the break Burton conceded a further try and a penalty try before they started to play as they can. But a twenty-minute spell of good rugby by the Burton team failed to yield any reward, although Carl Timmis acting as first receiver at a tap penalty move did make twenty metres to be inches short of a deserving try. Unfortunately this was the last of Burton’s efforts as Coalville added extra points to finish off the match a 42-8 winners.
