Burton Colts 25 Derby Colts 20 on 2nd February 2008

Burton made hard work of the early exchanges in this game against Derby by missed tackles and conceding too many penalties, and this allowed Derby to get an 8-0 lead despite facing the cold wind. A break by ‘Spud’ Taylor found George Wright on hand to take the final pass to score an excellent try. But Derby responded with another converted try to increase their lead to 15-5.

Burton ended the half in super style with tries by Will Peach and Nick Hanson, and so with Peach adding a penalty Burton finished the extended half (15 minutes injury time) leading 18-15.

Just after the restart ‘Stiggy’ Robinson intercepted a ball on the half-way line to race through to score and Peach’s conversion increased Burton’s lead to ten points. But with Derby’s coach Roxy Fearon roaring his side forward Derby went all out to score and got a final try just before the whistle to make the final score 25-20 giving Burton a hard, earned victory.
