Kenilworth 34 Burton 5 on 1st December 2007
In the first round of the National Plate Burton Colts were comfortably defeated (34-5) after their tiresome journey to Kenilworth when they were never able to run off the effects of the long coach journey. Struggling to get over the journey Burton never really got into the game and allowed Kenilworth to play the game at the pace and style.
The hosts got two early scores against a shaky and disorientated defence before Burton replied in their usual style. The Burton pack drove the ball forward brushing aside the home pack and David Jessel supported Josh Cartwright’s surge to drive over to score Burton’s lone try of the match. Kenilworth replied with two further tries before the break.
Burton regrouped at half-time and despite several moments of panic in the home defence following forward drive or Will Peach’s breaks they could not get another score. Before full time the hosts regained control and, despite the tackling of James Carter and Chris Skipper, got two further tries to seal a 34-5 victory.
