Sutton Coldfield 10  Burton Colts 12 on 16th February 2008

A late fixture change saw Burton Colts travelling to Sutton Coldfield and they soon realised that getting a result would not be easy as they faced a first half playing up a steep slope. Both sides contested every ball and scrummaged with vigour, but the hosts broke the deadlock after 15 minutes as their centre broke through Burton scrambling defence to score a try. After this, despite the slope, Burton started to dominate and a 5 metre scrum saw Jon Parkinson pick-up and drive over for a try to level the scores at 5-5.

Playing with the slope Burton began to pile on the pressure but it was Sutton who claimed an early territorial advantage, but Burton continued to counter attack and a charge down by Richard James saw Nick Hanson swoop up the loose ball. He then passed to James who out-stripped the home defence to score and Ben Marshall added the extra two points to put Burton 12-5 in the lead. Despite a frantic last ten minutes that saw Sutton get another try Burton’s defence was superb repelling all but one attack, and it was a great team effort that got Burton the result it deserved.
