Burton Colts 17 Syston Colts 5 on 8th December 2007

With original opposition, South Leicester, crying off late on Friday Syston stepped in to fill the void of no rugby on Peel Croft this week-end.  Looking to dispel last week’s disappointment Burton Colts were all out for success but an impressive looking Syston side denied them this with some late scores to gain victory. Credit should also go to the Under 17 players who helped make up the team and didn’t look out of place in this more senior age group.

The visitors attacked from the first whistle and using their pace soon exploited an overlap to score in the corner. But Burton responded and a great break by Jon Parkinson released Richard James, who raced in to level the scores. Ben Marshall converted this and added a penalty before the break to give the home side a 10-5.

Burton first half forward dominance was decreased by the departure of Lewis Johnson and despite some good defence by George Wright, Simon Till and Dan Eastwood pressure from the visitors bought another try to draw level.

Great rolling mauls by Burton with Adam Brooks, Parkinson and Eastwood saw Burton set up superb field position for Burton but despite Marshall releasing Matt Rowe like a raging bull the home side just could not turn territory into points. But having withstood this onslaught Syston recovered to score further tries and record a 25-10 victory.
