Worcester Colts 32 Burton Colts 23 on 29th September 2007
Burton started positively with good ball retention and some strong forward, and after 5 minutes Mark O’Brien scored with a fine individual effort. But Worcester quickly replied with three unconverted tries to establish a solid lead. However Burton hit back following some fine kicking by Will Peach that gave Burton territorial advantage that resulted in a penalty in front of the posts that Dave Archer slotted through the middle of the uprights.
Nick Hanson then finished off some superb loose play by diving over to touch down for another try, but Archer missed the conversion and so the score stayed at 15-13 until the half-time break.
Straight from the whistle Worcester added a further try after their winger took advantage of Burton’s poor tackling. Worcester converted this try and then added a further score to increase their lead to 27-13. Ten minutes later a handy run of penalties quickly taken by Phil Harris gave Lewis Brooks the chance to score another try for Burton to reduce the lead, but within two minutes Worcester hit back with a try of their own to lead by 32-18. But Burton had the last word as Richard James touched down after some clever, quick handling by the Burton team. But with this try also unconverted Burton returned home losers by 32-23 after putting up a good battling performance.
