Ashfield Burton ? on   December 2nd 2007

On Sunday Burton took one side to Sutton in Ashfield. Burton  were well beaten but by players who were twice their size. Robert Ramsell made his debut for Burton and impressed with a couple of fine runs. Callam Sandeman also had a great game , and made an excellent  first half run but was brought down well short of the line. The Burton backs handled well when given the chance. Most of the game saw Burton having to defend against the massive Sutton players. There was strong tackling by many of the Burton players including Lewis Slack and Michael Cook ,both playing out of position, Callam Sandeman, and especially James Walker who seemed to be everywhere to make big tackles. Both Alex Cooke and Will Lord had to leave the field with injuries. All in all a very tough day for this Burton team who should all be congratulated for their effort and bravery.

Burton 5 Loughborough 22

In the second fixture Burton came up against further strong opposition. However despite giving away a huge size and weight advantage, the Burton forwards more than matched their Loughborough counterparts. In the first half Loughborough ran in two breakaway tries from their fast winger . In the second half Burton started to put the pressure on Loghborough, despite playing into the wind. There was an excellent passage of play involving several forwards and most of the back line. This looked to have resulted in a try but Burton were held up. However from the resulting scrum more fine play and some excellent handling set up Ross Burrows to score . At 12 -5 Burton looked to be back in the game , but it was Loughborough who scored two further tries. The first was not helped by the wet and slippery conditions. Despite the defeat Burton showed a lot of character and skill against a physically strong Loughborough side.
