Burton 5 v Newcastle 29  on 20th January 2008

On Sunday Burton U'14's played Newcastle.  With Newcastle bringing along their full squad it was decided that the match would be played over three 20 minute sessions.

Burton started extremely well moving the ball across the backs with Connor Clare and Tom Bunting linking well at nine and ten.  With the forwards in support burton pushed into Newcastles half and were awarded with a try by Gevin Tomlinson a first for his club.  Owen Farrington and Sam Turner both had good spells in the centre playing these new positions.

Burton were with out their usual hooker and utility player Lewis Slack showed his ability to cover any position and filled the position well.

In this session Burton were able to play  rugby against a comparable team. After the re start Newcastle broke burtons defence and were able to score.  This session finished 5-5

Newcastle made several changes at the start of the second spell bringing on the "big guns"  this then put Burton on their back foot . Nathan Stokes took the biggest hit from one of the large opponents got up and tackled his heart out.

Billy Holdworth dropped in at scrum half and continually took out his opposite number at the scrums, Alex Bowen and Marcus Atmitage coming back from injury finding match fitness did well.

This Burtons side have been in this position before showed grit and determination through to the end of the game . In the final third Burton showed great defence and held Newcastle up time after time.
