Loughborough 21 Burton Stags 10
On Sunday the Burton under 14 Stags side travelled to Loughborough. The Burton lads knew they would have to be more energetic than in their previous match if they were to compete against a talented Loughborough side. The opening passage of play was excellent from Burton. There was some good aggressive pressure from the Burton forwards. Eventually this pressure paid off as they were awarded a penalty in front of the posts. Ashley Allum slotted the ball over for an early 3 point lead. Loughborough responded with some good rugby. From their own penalty Loughborough spotted an overlap and took advantage to score a try which they converted. Loughborough added a second converted try in the half from a charged down kick. But the game was not all one way. Burton were working really hard up front and were creating good ball from some well worked rucks. Edwin Runagle was making some great runs coming on to the ball at pace . Nathan Brooks also made some good runs in his first game for the Stags. The half time score then was Burton 3 Loughborough 14.
In the second half Burton played some good rugby. However Loughborough also looked dangerous on the break. Indeed it looked certain that Loughborough had scored another try but for an excellent track back by Alistair weedon to tackle before the line. Eventually Loughborough did score another try. However this seemed the spark for Burton to finish the game in style. The ball was being moved well. Henry Whitfield made a good break down the left wing. Burton continued to recycle the ball well and finally their pressure was rewarded when, from a penalty, Stuart carter found Whitfield with a pass and he powered over the line. The try was converted by Allum. This was the final score of the match and sealed a much improved performance from The Stags.
