Bromsgrove Burton Stags 0 on   Nov 25th 2007

On Sunday Burton under 14's made the long trip down to Bromsgrove. Buton knew that this would be an excellent test of how this team is progressing following a good run of victories. The match was highly entertaining between two well matched sides. Bromsgove had a strong and well organised pack but Burton did exceptionally well at the breakdown. In the first half Burton played uphill and enjoyed plenty of possesion , but it was Bromsgrove who scored the only try as they were able to create a three man overlap having won the ball at a ruck. This was the first and only time they really threatened the Burton line. Burton put in several attacks and almost scored as Josh Wilson was held up on the line.

In the second half Burton improved further and probably had 80% of the play. However excellent and well organised defence from the Bromsgrove side together with some  unusual decisions at the breakdown prevented Burton putting points on the board. There were strong penetrating runs from Whitfield , Turner, Burrows and Runagale in the back line. With some brave counter attacking from Hunt and Andrews. This combined with an excellent  performance by the forwards meant that Burton dominated this game throughout . Indeed they will win many  games which they dominate less .But credit must be given to Bromsgrove's defence as the result finished Bromsgrove 5 Burton 0.

Burton Lions 7 Sandbach 31

Burton Lions played Sandbach at home who proved to be a very good opposition.Burton had a predictable usual poor start conceding two early tries which were converted. The home side lacked shape in the first half and Sandbach broke away and scored again. However not deterred by this, the whole team started to push forward and were rewarded by a well deserved try from Adam Cooke who picked up the ball in his own half and out ran through the visitors down the wing to score under the posts, this was converted by Callum Sanderman.

This lifted  Burton's confidence , unfortunately they conceded again just before the break.

Burton started well loosing only one scrum in the whole game.  A penalty was conceded in Burton's 22 but the visitors failed to gain points but they were fortunate to score once again taking the score to 07-31. James Walker and Sam Waldega played well, Tom Langleys match fitness improving in every game showed today.  Areas that Burton need to work on in training are securing the ball on the floor and competing in the rucks .The determination of the Burton squad was present throughout the game right to the final whistle well done lads.
