Burton 50 Burntwood 5 on   Nov 11th 2007

On Sunday Burton under 14's played their fourth and final league game of the season. An outstanding performance from the Burton lads saw them make it four wins out of four and win division two in the process. The Burton pack was outstanding from start to finish , winning every breakdown , winning scrum after scrum against the head and securing quick ball throughout. Early pressure set up the first try from William Turner who burst through a pack of players to score. This was converted by James Gibbons. The Burton forwards kept the pressure on and it was Chris Sammons who went over for a try, which was again converted by Gibbons. The next try came from a good passage of play. Shay Kavanaghr made a great charging run and Tom Bunting in support took the ball on . As he was tackled Josh Wilson was there in support and took the ball to score a great try. Again Gibbons converted to keep the score ticking over . There was one final try in the half . Henry Whitfield put in an excellent cross field kick which was well collected by Tom Hunt. Hunt set the ball well and again Wilson was there in support to score his second try. The half time score was Burton 26 Burntwood 0.

At half time the players from both sides are to be congratulated when, despite being in the heat of a game, they impeccably observed a two minute silence at 11.00am on remembrance Sunday.

From the start of the second half Henry Andrew put in a clever kick of his own into space, Edwin Runagle charged after the ball, and although the ball was well defended by the Burntwood full back , he did enough to keep the pressure on for a ruck . Stuart Carter collected the ball from the ruck and scored an excellent try. Burton's next try came from a lineout. It was well won by Alex Crisp and this set up Alistair Weedon to score a try . From the kick off the ball was kicked straight to Chris Sammons the Burton hooker . Sammons promptly ran half the length of the pitch and beat several attempted tackles to score between the posts. Again this try was converted by Gibbons. Burntwood did score a try of their own as their powerful number 8 beat several Burton players . However it was Burton who scored the final try . Again Crisp caught superbly at a lineout and passed the ball out to Sammons who completed a great performance with his hat trick of tries. Gibbons converted yet again , his fifth of the match. With all 22 players contributing to an excellent display ,the final score was  Burton 50 Burntwood 5 and Burton were division two champions.

Burton Whites 24 v Burton Yellow 10

After the Burntwood game , the players who played against Burntwood were joined by others from the large Burton squad and were divided into two teams. The players then put on another excellent display of flowing rugby. The yellows were the first to score. The tireless Sammons collected a kick through and he set up Turner to score a try. The whites immediately responded and some great play through their backs set up  Kieran Hawketts to score a try converted by Crisp. The yellows restored their lead from a long through kick by Hunt . Danny Stringer made a great tackle on Wilson but Sammons was there yet again to score. This game ebbed and flowed through the first half and it was white who scored next . Sam Day and Whitfield combined well and put a great pass out to Adam Cooke who made a great run to score . At half time the score was Burton whites 12 Burton yellows 10.

In the second half the white backs again played well with Adam and Michael Cook combining well. Whites were next to score . Weedon picked up well at the back of the scrum and set up Ross Burrows to power over for a try converted by Crisp . The final try came from Crisp, who collected a great ball from the lineout as he had done all morning. This time he took the ball on his self to score to make it whites 24 yellow 10 . This game was played competitively , but in tremendous spirit amongst the Burton players and there was some great rugby for the parents to watch
