Burton 32 Leek 7 on Nov 4th 2007
On Sunday Burton under 14's played their third Staffordshire cup match of the season, this time against Leek.Burton made the perfect start when, from a scum followiing a knock on from the kick off, the ball was moved out to Edwin Runagle to power through for the first try. This was well converted by James Gibbons. Burton were playing some good rugby especially at the breakdowns , but poor decision making was stopping them adding to the early score. But as the half continued Burton started to play the ball more quickly and this resulted in two futher first half tries. The first was scored by Stuart Carter who powered over from a penalty and the second a good break by Josh Wilson. At half time the score was Burton 17 Leek 0.
In the second half both teams raised their games . Burton were now moving the ball well and the next try came from a Sam Day break from the back of a scrum. He beat two players before setting up Henry Whitfield to go over the line. The best try of the day followed some great work by the backs . The ball was moved well down the line and this set up Runagle to go over for his second try of the day .Leek showed that they had some power in their backs and missed tackles from Burton allowed Leek to score their only try which was also well converted. Burton responded by raising their game again. The ball was moving well and Tom Hunt had some good breaks down the left wing. This put pressure on Leek and from a resulting ruck Alex Crisp was able to collect the ball and nothing was going to stop him going over for the final try of the day.And so an excellent flowing performance from all 22 players in the Burton squad resulted in Burtons third cup win out of three with a final score of Burton 32 Leek 7
