Burton 15 Melbourne 85 on Sept 23rd 2007
Burton Cougars set of on their journey into the U15s season by hosting Melbourne on the Ox-Hay. In what can only be described as a poor performance, the Cougars struggled to find their feet letting in try after try.
Burton Cougars failed to respond quickly enough to their opposition and all too often tried to stem the flow with half hearted and ultimately ineffective tackles. Their execution at the breakdown was equally soft, with many leaning in without securing possession whilst leaving a vast overlap outside which Melbourne put to good use. The Cougars did put some points on the board through an individual try, a penalty and an interception try from Tom Cooper.
A good performance from Melbourne with a total of 12 tries, they were never challenged enough to show their full abilities. We wish them well for the rest of the season.
With their first county fixtures a week away, the Cougars need to regroup and use today’s experiences as a wake up call. Hard yards, hard tackling and hard work is the only way forward at this age group, hopefully the best is yet to come.
