In the most atrocious weather thrown at us so far this season Burton battled valiantly against Coalville to draw 5-5. The team played on the main Washlands pitch for the first time complete with mud stained crop circles. Early in the first half Adam Lloyd scored the first try, with Johnny Biggs narrowly missing the conversion. Alex Reeves put in some great runs with Nathan Taylor putting in his usual strong tackles. Tempers looked fraught in the final minutes of the first half with a Coalville player being carried off the pitch. The coaches called for a big defence of the back line as Coalville were held up failing to score, as the whistle blew.
The second half bought further freezing rain and bitter cold. The team defended the line well with a dogged and determined performance with only the odd ball handling error and penalty given away. Early in the half Coalville finally got the try they’d kept pushing for, but missed the conversion. The battle of attrition carried on right until the final whistle blew with both teams hardly discernible from the mud coating they had received.
