Burton 8 Lichfield 24 on   Oct 14th 2007

We all met at Burton (with a few people complaining of headaches after celebrating England’s victory over France in the World Cup reminding them of Agincourt!) for a 10.45 kick-off at the Ox Hay to play a supposed non county playing Lichfield team.

The game started well with uncontested scrums and good quality play from both sides when only 5 minutes into the match Jake Manning suffered a heavy tackle leaving him with a hole in his chin needing a trip to the hospital. Despite a good run from Giles Rought Whitta and the Burton forwards putting a lot of pressure on Lichfield they managed to break free and scored a try on 10mins which went unconverted.

Lichfield continued to put pressure on Burton but Burton defend well with some good clearances they’re hard work being rewarded with a penalty which was kicked through the sticks by Sam Smith giving Burton three points. All in all a commendable first half from Burton keeping the score 5-3 to Lichfield at half time.

Burton kick off second half with some team changes Lichfield continue to apply pressure and score a second try again failing to convert.

Burton keep their heads up rucking and mauling well but the strong Lichfield manage to score and this time convert to give them a 17-3 lead. Burton although defending well concede a further try which is also converted to a 24-3 lead. This did not deter a spirited fight from Burton with a great try from Adam Lloyd scoring his first try for Burton which was not converted.
