Burton 58 Leicester Vipers 7 on   Nov 25th 2007

After being kept waiting by the visitors, Burton were keen to get into action.  Maitland Simpson-Smith received the kick off and set up the first of three rucks that took the play deep in the opposition 22.  A quick ruck ball saw play transfer to the right and through quick hands Nathan Wrathall was put over the try line for the first of his three tries.

The first twenty minutes followed the same pattern with Ed Watkins crossing for 3 scores and Nathan Wrathall another two.  The forwards were linking well and the backs making use of quick ball.  Burton then rang the changes with substitutions being made, but little difference was noticed with further scores from Nathan Taylor and Jon Briggs.  Briggs converted four of the tries and the first half ended with Burton leading
48 – 0. A clinical performance so far!

More changes were rung at half time, Burton using 28 players in total.  It took a little time for the team to settle into a rhythm and stout defence by the opposition kept further scores from Burton at bay.  Strong runs by new player Jack Coetze and Sam Heptonstall took the play near to the try line.  Quick hands by Sam Smith and Jake Manning put Andy Young in for the first of his two tries.  These were scored either side of the one Leicester try; an interception on the Burton 22 saw the Leicester player run unopposed under the posts to the delight of the travelling crowd.  The game drew to close shortly after with constant Burton pressure.

Congratulations to Jack and Sam, new team members, who made their debut today and thanks to those lads who played for the opposition.
