Wolverhampton 0 Burton 5 on Dec 16th 2007

Burton had selected a development team to travel to Wolverhampton to give some much needed game time to some players who had not been selected in the previous two cup games , some however chose not to take up the opportunity . This meant Burton only had 17 players and many last minute positional changes were required . A big thanks to all those who made the effort and in particular to Stocky and Zach who both had to play  in the front row – a fine job they did too .

The coaches had urged the players to throw caution to the wind and play an open running game of rugby . However due to some stout defence and a very competitive effort in the loose by Wolverhampton this was never possible . Despite dominating both territory and possession in the first half Burton were unable to break the deadlock and the first half ended 0-0 .

The team began the second period much as they had finished the first , in Wolverhamptons half . They were now producing faster ball which finally paid dividends when the the backs moved the ball speedily to the left and the forwards won quick ball . The backs this time moved the ball right where Ed Watkins was waiting to crash over for the games only score .

Wolverhampton did have one opportunity to score late on when there outside centre broke through Burtons first line of defence , however a great tackle by Tom Sharratt and good work from Elliot who bravely dropped on the ball allowed Burton to clear .

The game ended 5 – 0 and Burton had secured yet another win . A an excellent effort from all the players who grafted hard for the full 70 minutes .
