Burton 41 Wolves 5 on   Sept 23rd 2007

On a balmy Sunday morning Burton strode out onto an Ox Hay in poor condition after the recent floods.

Wolverhampton kicked off into a strong wind and started strongly,Burton not helping themselves with a high penalty count against them.Burton however started to get the upper hand but after 7 minutes a knock on in the opposition 22 resulted in a break to near Burton's line but after brave defence their line was breached to go down

5-0.Burton immediately upped the tempo and after a brief injury to Stockbridge who was pulled down in a lineout and from the resulting penalty a high tackle on Minns gave an advantage and Briggs was driven over and converted his try.Burton continued to use the stong wind and scored two quick tries from Reeve in the corner and Watkins under the posts, both conversions were missed. As half time approached Burton took one against the head of the inexperienced Wolverhampton front row and after good clearing out by Minns and then Tattersall, Burton moved the ball quickly through the backs for full back Smith to score under the posts, Briggs again converting to leave a half time score of 24-5.

Playing into the still strong wind, burton kicked off and again conceded 3 penalties in the first 3 minutes but the game soon settled into the pattern of long kicks by the opposition with Burton running it back at every opportunity and from a period of pressure in the Wolverhampton 22 , Worthy was on the end of an overlap to score in the left hand corner.Burton were now rucking excellently and from more quick ball, a 2 man overlap was created with Manning scoring under the posts. Burton now made 3 substitutions but this did not effect the continuity and were in dominant mood but knock on's stopped the score running away until late in the game a line out was secured and an inside pass to hooker Taylor who charged up the 5 metere channel to score, again the conversion being missed in difficult conditions for kicking.Overall a pukka performance from Burton who continue their unbeaten start to the season.
