Lichfield 44 Burton 0 on February 3rd 2008
Burton U17's travelled to Stafford rugby club to play Lichfield in the county cup final. It is fair to say that the Burton team went there with realistic expectations of a cup upset. These expectations were also in evidence amongst the many supporters cheering Burton throughout the match.

Burton kicked off facing into the wind and managed to compete on an even level for the opening ten minutes. Unfortunately Burton were never allowed to gain any momentum and with Lichfield playing some of the best rugby seen this year it became a long day at the office for all concerned.
Lichfield ran in quality trys from all areas of the pitch and with good kicking options and wind advantage they were able to run up nearly 30 unanswered points as half time approached.

Burton U17's continued to work hard with scrums and line outs evenly matched. Changes were made to try and get some offence going and also to give all substitutes a chance on the pitch.
Another ten minute spell at the start of the second half saw Burton work hard to recover some pride and passion, however Lichfield weathered the storm and broke out to score several more unanswered trys.

Although well beaten on the scoreboard the Burton team were still upbeat after the game and they still remain focused on making further improvement over the coming months. Lichfield were well worth their victory today and now go on to compete in the main national competition.

Burton remain positive and look forward to the rest of the season, representing Staffordshire in the national plate competition and travelling to Wales for a mini tournament in April.

Burton Rugby Club wish to extend their thanks to Stafford Rugby Club for their hospitality and for hosting this excellent cup fixture. Thanks are also given to the referee and the two Stafford touch judges who all gave up their time today so that both teams could play a game of rugby.
