Lichfield 20 Burton 5 on   Dec 23rd 2007

Burton U17's left a foggy Burton area and travelled the short distance down the A38 to take on league leaders Lichfield in a pre cup final tester.

Playing on the large first team pitch the Burton players were keenly aware that this may favour the Lichfield back line and therefore tried to keep the game tight and up the middle.

Burton opened the scoring with some good forward play and Simon Till crashed over for an unconverted try. Lichfield responded well with repeated attacks on the Burton line and they managed two unconverted trys in the first half to post a 10 - 5 scoreline at the break.

The second half continued in much the same vane as the first with Lichfield working quick ball to all areas of the pitch and Burton trying to counter and compete with solid forward play and an all round determination to get back into the game from all players on the park.

Burton tried hard to get back on level terms from all situations and regularly attempted to run from their own 22 area, however this resulted in a couple of mistakes and breakaways which allowed Lichfield to score two more unconverted trys.

The final score was 20 - 5 in Lichfields favour, however the Burton U17 team spirit remains high and there is a full month of hard work ahead before battle lines are drawn again in the County cup final  on the 3rd February 2008.

Our thanks to the referee and touch judges who were excellent today and also thanks must go to both sets of players for a hard fought game so close to the Christmas break.
