Burton 0 Lichfield 17 on   Oct 14th 2007

After a difficult week of planning and organising we found ourselves with an amazing 25 players fit and available for today's top of the table clash with Lichfield. This included four U16 players who helped out enormously on and off the pitch.

Lining up against Lichfield

The match was very tight in the first 15 minutes with neither side gaining any real advantage. Space was hard to find, Burton settled into their task well and on occasions the Lichfield team were rattled and having to dig deep.

Burton were 5 nil down when they decided to go for line out rather than 3 easy penalty points - good on you for trying our moves and wanting to take the game to them.

At half time the Burton squad were only one score down and with a little luck could easily have been 7-5 up!!. The next score would prove to be crucial and unfortunately for us it went to Lichfield who scored a break away try following 10 minutes of intense Burton pressure.

Chances were hard to come by during the remainder of the second half and there was some fantastic forward battles right the way across the pitch. With time running out Burton could not prevent the score line being extended to 17 - 0 in favour of a well organised Lichfield side.

A close game today, closer than the score line suggests, however more important is the fact that Burton U17's are improving and they will get much better as individuals and as a team. Keep up the good work.

Finally 4 sets of white laces were awarded today with two U16 players justifiably acknowledged - thanks Nathan and Ed.
