Burton 15 Stafford 7 on   Jan 6th 2008

After clearing ice off the pitch the sun began to shine and an excellent game of competitive Rugby was played on the Ox Hay between the Burton and Stafford under 17 teams.

Burton had the brighter start creating several clear cut chances and overlaps, which were either knocked on or scrambled safely into touch. Stafford defended well right the way across the pitch and only conceded an unconverted try just before the half time whistle.

Burton lead 5 nil at half time courtesy of an Adam Brookes try, however in all honesty it could and should have been a wider margin at the break. All 21 Burton players did their bit today, however special mention should go to Dominic Gayle who played his first game this season at Tight head prop - well done Dom and hope the leg gets better!!!

The second half saw Stafford working even harder and trying everything to get back into the match, however it was Burton who ran in two excellent unconverted try's from good support play and an improved determination from the backs. At 15 nil up Burton were out in front and probably looking to finish the game in style. Unfortunately the hard working Stafford team had other ideas and following some excellent phases of play Stafford scored a deserved converted try with about 7 minutes remaining.

Both teams showed an excellent spirit today in contesting a hard fought game with difficult pitch conditions. The referee, Mr Tom Handy was also congratulated by both teams and supporters for his excellent handling of the match.

Well done Burton and keep up the effort over the rest of the season.
