Under 10's at home to Ashby on 17th February 2008

Game 1 - Burton Lions 5 v Ashby RFC 15

Burton started very well with some excellent ball play and committed rucking that won us ball time and time again, scrum half George Poutney delivered quality ball, time after time and it wasn't long before Lions new signing Will Beardsmore scored a worthy try after excellent passing and evasive running by the backline finishing the first half 5- nil up.

All change at half-time and within seconds Ashby had ran in an equaliser. Burtons'  defence collapsed and tackle after tackle was missed as Ashby twice scored from long winding runs after a breakdown where Burton lost the ball. The game finally finishing as a 15-5 defeat against the hosts.

More tackling practice for Lions we think!!

Try Scorer - Will Beardsmore

Game 2 - Burton Lions 20 v Ashby 5

Further to an encouraging pep talk after the first game, Burton Lions turned on a fantastic performance of teamwork & determination. The Brewers were camped in the oppositions half for most of the game and kept the pressure on throughout. Tackling became fashionable and everyone got stuck in with some excellent work from the Lomax Bros, Mitchell Bailey, Matty Hunt to name but a few.

Danny Causer consistently drove back the attack with some fearsome tackles to the delight of the home crowd as did Alex Garner and Daniel Heale.

The visitors did their best but the mighty Lions worked the ball well, rucked hard and ran in try after try, finishing as winners 20-5 with Will Beardsmore completing a mornings' hat-trick despite two nose bleeds, now there's commitment!

Try Scorers - Daniel Heale, Alex Garner, Will Beardsmore 2.

It was a great morning of fun rugby and the 'Golden Laces' were handed to Alex Garner for his tenacious tackling and much improved handling of the ball as well as his good sporting attitude. Well done Alex !
