Burton 10 Coalville 5 on December 2nd 2007
Burton faced a very big and strong Coalville side and put in a fantastic team performance to come out on top. Burton soaked up the early Coalville pressure and within the first 2 minutes of the game Coalville's Backs got the ball to their winger who broke the Burton defence and with only the full back to beat a try was sure, but Burton Full Back Ben Whitehouse as the last line of defence stood strong and put in an enormous tackle to stop the try. This seemed to spur Burton on and lift the teams self belief.
The forwards led by Captain Josh Greenwood were strong in all the elements of set play, in the rucks Burtons forwards secured the ball to allow the backs to demonstrate their attacking skills. Half backs Harry Pickett and Alex Finney got the back line going forward, commanding the play, Centres Thomas Benjamin and Jacob Brown straightened the lines of attack causing chaos for the Coalville defence and wingers Oscar Phillips and Joshua Thorman demonstrated their electric pace in space. The first half ended nil nil following an exciting fast and furius running rugby game from both teams.
In the second half it was Burton to score first as the power of the forwards proved too much for Coalville, the front row of Josh Greenwood, Abe furner and Oliver Jones were solid in the scrum and after a Burton scrum the ball broke down following a tackle on Scrum Half Harry Pickett, Josh Greenwood cleared up the loose ball and with the help of the Forwards drove a maul to within 2 yards of the line, Oliver jones battled hard to keep the ball with burton and when within 1 yard he allowed Alistair Robson to take the ball and power over the line for the try. Burton conceeded an equalising try within 5 minutes of their own score, but showed great character and strength to score the winning try in the last play of the game. Mark Titley took the ball on to the Coalville forwards and had the full support of his fellow forwards as Burton's forwards drove close to the line, several attempts from the forwards to score were held out by a strong Coalville defense, but when Burton had sucked in enough Coalville players to the maul, the ball was released out by a great pass from Scrum half Harry Picket to winger Joshua Thorman who used his lightening speed to outpace the Coalville defense to score the winning try in the corner. Hooker Abe furner showed his improving ability, completeing the basics very well to help his team to victory. A great team performance and a well deserved Win for Burton's Under 11's.
Burton 0 Coalville 20
This second match was again another very entertaining running rugby game from both teams. Burton Conceeded two tries in each half to lose the game but not without a fight.
Burton's defence stood very strong and kept out the Coalville attack for long periods of the game. Burton demonstrated great determined courage in their defence with all the team contributing to keeping out Coalville.Aidan Hopkinson put in a great try saving tackle on the wing with Full back George Wyton and winger Greg toon also solid in defence. Centres Tai fellows and Tim Robinson took the ball forward for Burton with some excellent runs. Half Backs Liam gray and Ewan Collins linked the forwards and backs well setting up some good attacking play. 2nd rows Alex Walker and Lewis Sturgess were solid in the scrum and lineout with Front row props ben Higinson and BenTomlinson showing great strength in both attack and defence. Hooker Joe Thompson had some great surging attacking runs battling his way through the tough Coalville defence. New players making their Debut Matthew Knowles and Haydn Mabbott gave a good account for themselves putting in tackles and supporting their team mates in attack, but for Burton the player of the week was Centre Tim Robinson who put in several try saving tackles and his sheer strength and determination in attack caused many problems for Coalville. Well done to all.
