Burton @ Birmingham Solihull on 10th February 2008

The Under 7's teams were invited by the Birmingham and Solihull Rugby Club for their weekly match this week and in contrast to last weeks appalling weather conditions, all the games were played under a cloudless sky in bright wintry sunshine.  All the youngsters rose to the occasion and played passionate games but weren't to be rewarded to the full.

Game 1:  Bham Solihull 30   Burton 20

As the teams met each other for their first game our youngsters looked overshadowed by the size of their opponents.  But only the spectactors seemed to notice this as the Burton boys faced the battle ahead.  Solihull however opened up with an early try, but undaunted Burton's Ethan Lowing was the first to score for Burton.  Strong play followed but it was scrappy at times, with some lovely moments of teamwork periodically, but Burton were  sometimes poor in defence allowing Solihull to surge ahead.  Joe Ensor did his usual tricks for Burton and scurried through Solihull's defences whenever he could, managing to score twice.  Elvis Drinkwater was the other scorer for Burton

Game 2:  Bham Solihull 20   Burton 5

The second game had a poor start with Solihull clearly the stronger side. Burton struggled throughout with only some flashes of teamwork and some strength in defense from time to time.  On this showing Solihull deserved to win convincingly by 20-5.  The only scorer for Burton was Ethan Lowing.

Game 3:  Bham Solihull 20   Burton 35

The third and final game was what the youngsters had been waiting for as they pulled out all the stops for a brilliant win, as a result of good tagging, teamwork, and good attacking rugby from all the team.  There was no stopping Joe Ensor who mercilessly went into the attack constantly and was rewarded with 5 tries, in one particular instant he took full advantage of a dropped ball and flew through to score yet again. He was followed by Matthew Baker who scored twice.  There were some fabulous passes and strong running from everyone and the whole game showed off the U7's skills to their full.
