Under 7's on tour to Moreton in the Marsh over the Easter Weekend

The Under 7's held their annual Easter Tour this year based at The Fire Service College, Moreton in Marsh. The accommodation at the College proved to be extremely comfortable, but our comfort was short lived when we went to Shipston on Stour RFC on Saturday morning to play 3 games in a bitterly cold wind and driving snow. The heroic group of youngsters went straight into their first game but were taken by surprise by the team from Shipston who got the first try within seconds. From then on it was an uphill struggle for Burton and they never really got it together, apart from Elvis Drinkwater who put away 4 try's. Burton lost 30-21. The second game started better but again Burton didn't play well as a team and lost by the same score. The final game was going better for Burton and they were drawing 25-25 when the game was abandoned because of rapidly deteriorating weather conditions.
On Easter Sunday we travelled to Witney RFC and again played 3 games. After some great encouragement from the coaches, the youngsters really got it together and with some good defense work they made it very difficult for Witney to score. There was excellent teamwork with constant harrassment from Burton. Ben Gilleland came through to score, and after a fantastic run Matthew Baker scored a tremendous try. All in all a great team effort, with the final score being 10-10.
By now the Burton had got the bit between their teeth and in the second game the whole team pulled together and it was largely a repeat of the first game. Again it was a draw (15-15) with Ethan Lowing, Elvis Drinkwater and Henry all scoring one a piece. The youngsters lost a bit of concentration at the end as tiredness began to creep in.
The third and final game saw Burton lose 20-15, but again the determined teamwork showed through with good attacking periods and good defense. Ben Gilleland scored twice and MatthewBaker once. Burton were unlucky to lose this one, but Witney were able to get the winning try in the dying moments.
Man of the tour was Jacob Ruprecht and all the team players were voted by the the coaches and parents to be "Man of the Match"
All in all the Tour was enjoyed by everyone and thanks must go to the Under 11's who organised it all so well, not least the games on Saturday evening!
