Under 7's at Lichfield festival on 20th April 2008
The Under 7's "Tag Monsters" travelled to Lichfield for this Festival on a cold windy overcast wintry day, where the event was divided into 2 competitions, namely the Cup Competition and the Plate Competition. As usual these enthusiastic youngsters showed up in sufficient strength to be able to present a full team for both Competitions. Our opposition was against 5 teams from towns in Staffordshire, so instead of the normal 3 games, they braced themselves for 5 games.
The Cup team had a bad time of it despite some determined play and encouraging efforts from all the individuals from Burton. The opposition teams proved to be better on the day, but the Cup team kept up the pressure in all the games and despite tiredness creeping in they acquitted themselves with honour. They can be pleased with all the points they earned and with more team, rather than individual effort they would certainly have achieved more success.
The Plate team had a much better day and won 3 of their 5 games. They gelled well as a team, showing off some of their skills dramatically, with tagging, support and scoring being a real credit to them all. By the 4th game the young team captain took his team on one side and showed off his coaching skills! Remember, he is barely 7 years old! The net result was that the Plate team took a very well earned 2nd place in the Festival, and deserved that prize. They will be showing off their plate with pride to everyone on May 11th at the Annual Burton Presentations at Peel Croft.
Naming specific team members for plaudits in either Competition would mean naming everyone because as usual everyone gave of their best and despite the weather, the strong opposition and some injuries, everyone enjoyed the day out.
