Burton v Worcester on 16th December 2007
Game 1 Burton A 25 Worcester 25
A great start for both teams considering the ice cold temperatures. Superb captaincy by Lucy Stringer who along with Ben Gilleland, Elvis Drinkwater and Ethan Lowing scored a try.
Game 2 Burton B 5 Worcester 30
A not so convincing start for Burton. A brilliantly executed try form Zak Taylor-Smith helped save their blushes. Long johns should have been standard issue for the teams, although they played gallantly.
Game 3 Burton A 25 Worcester 20
Burton's first win of the day! Another excellent try from Lucy Stringer, one from super fast Joe Ensor and a hat trick from Jacob Ruprecht put the game to bed....the game was much more convincing than the score suggests!
Game 4 Burton B 10 Worcester 30
Some very strong defensive work from Worcester prevented Burton from making much of an impression in this game. There were a couple of sweeping moves from Burton, ending in a superbly taken try by Matthew Baker, and after his first being harshly disallowed, Aaron Pooni scored an absolute stunner. Sadly, the two Burton tries weren't enough to salvage the game...a great effort anyway!
Game 5 Burton A 35 Worcester 20
This was by far the best performance from team 1! This was the game when the team gelled....defensive and offensive work was straight out of the top drawer with super slick play from all of the team. The list of try scorers reads: two for Elvis Drinkwater, one for Ethan Lowing and Joe Ensor, and three from Jacob Ruprecht.
Both Burton teams played heroically despite the freezing cold conditions and the daunting task of playing away at Worcester.
The coaches look forward to giving the under 7's a crushing training session in January to work off the Christmas pud!
